Terms and Conditions

1. Description of Service

My Book Vault is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) web application for tracking your personal reading. The Service allows you to catalog books, log reading status and history, rate books, and view reading statistics. Book metadata may be auto-filled from the Open Library API when you provide an ISBN.

2. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must create an account with a valid email address and password. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials
• All activity that occurs under your account
• Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Subscription Tiers and Payment

The Service offers a 14-day free trial followed by a Free tier and a paid Plus tier:

Billing

Plus subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on each billing cycle.

Free Trial

New accounts receive a 14-day free trial with full access to all features (unlimited books). After the trial period ends, your account reverts to the Free tier (10-book limit). Your data is preserved—upgrade to Plus at any time to regain unlimited access.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain Plus access until the period ends, after which your account reverts to the Free tier.

Refunds

Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, contact us at support@mybookvault.me.

Price Changes

We may change subscription pricing with 30 days' notice. Price changes apply at the next billing cycle after the notice period.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must NOT:

• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service.
• Use the Service to store or transmit harmful, abusive, or unlawful content.
• Circumvent usage limits or access features beyond your subscription tier.
• Share account credentials or allow unauthorized third parties to access your account.
• Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without our written permission.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section without notice or refund.

5. Your Data and Content

Ownership

You retain ownership of all data you enter, including book entries, reading logs, ratings, and reader notes. We do not claim ownership of your content.

License to Us

By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, and display your data solely for the purpose of providing the Service. This license terminates when you delete your data or close your account.

Data Deletion

You may delete individual books and their associated reading history at any time. Upon account closure, we will delete your data within 30 days.

Inactive Accounts

Accounts that have been inactive for more than 12 months (no logins) are subject to deletion. We will attempt to notify you by email at least 14 days before deleting an inactive account. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.

6. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers including Open Library (book metadata), Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting), Prisma Postgres (database), and Resend (email). We are not responsible for the availability, performance, or policies of these third-party services. Your use of the Service is also subject to the terms and policies of these providers.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, features, documentation, and branding, is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property except the limited right to use the Service as described herein.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
• Book metadata retrieved from third-party sources will be accurate or complete
• The Service will meet your specific requirements

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, business opportunities, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from:

• Your violation of these Terms
• Your misuse of the Service
• Your violation of any applicable law

11. Termination

By You

You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Active subscriptions should be canceled through the Stripe Customer Portal before account closure.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or at our discretion with reasonable notice. Upon termination for cause, no refund is owed.

Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. We will delete your data within 30 days of account closure.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email or in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Oregon.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
